Adaptive Radiation

In reading up on the history of science I realized an extremely alarming pattern of interest.

Our advance in science from the beginning of history has a remarkably similar pattern to the theory of evolution.

"Adaptive radiation" is a trait that is present in our history of science.
The world was flat once and there was no reason to change until gravity was conceived to describe the movements of the stars and the basis for physics. Then came Hubble then Einstein and so on.. The pattern of progress in science mirrors that of a standard tree of adaptive radiation. Science has adapted to nature just as Earth's genome has, so maybe we are evolving at this moment in more ways than meets the eye...

Plus, humans aren't going to evolve anytime soon.

We have halted any natural selection by taking care of the retarded/weak/disabled/etc. No longer are only the best of the best breeding, it seems that the best of the best have slowed down, and the stupidest/weakest are breeding faster than ever.

Of course, there will genetic mutations in time.

we're all fucked anyway.

humans are just going to turn into the equivelent of breakfast cereal because of television, video games, and computers.
thats our evolution, nothing fun.

My grounds are that of cultural evolution. It's lightning compared to that of natural selection.

I just think that the world's interpretation of nature over time is oddly similar to the current picture of evolution thats all.

I guess I can't really get any idea out there if my observations aren't being interpreted correctly by others, so let me ask:

"Do you think that we are evolving? Yes? No? Why or why not?"

And

"Is the notion open for the possibility or not?"

Plus when you're talking about cultural evolution, natural selection is taken out of the picture. Another mechanism's in it's place of course, we just haven't observed it yet scientifically.

We are obviously evolving biologically because our environment is changing rapidly.

Culturally we are always evolving.

Technologically we are evolving at an alarming exponential rate.

People have known that the world was round for nearly all of recorded history, long before Newton.

Anyway...  I will read this again later and see if I can make sense of it.  :wexican:
