San Pedro Questions - Winter

Hi there,
January is super cold here. All my cacti have been brought inside, and placed in a place without natural light. They do receive some light from regular bulbs.
I have not watered them all winter.
What's the problem? They are growing fast. They have super skinny elongated growth. Very light green.
Will these fill out - get bigger - after the winter - and when they are placed back on the porch in direct south western light?

i had the same problem with my first 2 cacti i bought a few years back and it is because they did not go dormant before you brought them in, if you go from watering every day to inside where it is warm but no water they will not always go dormant because cacti can go a while with out watering.
after my first 2 did that i now go through a process before winter, i watch the weather and when i know it is going to be 40-50 for a few weeks i stop watering a week before that and then i leave my cacti out in this cold for 2 weeks+ and i still continue to not water and with the approx month of no water and 2-3 weeks of 40 deg weather it is a done deal and i can put them in the basement for the winter.
good luck next time but i would get a hps for the rest of the winter

They need a cold and dry period before you bring them in so they will already be dormant when they come inside. The growing tip will slowly grow thicker as it grows taller but the skinny etiolated parts will stay skinny.

good advice. stop watering early fall, and store your dormant cacti in a cool place. if it's dry and protected from frost, san pedro can tolerate down even below 20f/-7c. i would assume room temperature will not allow the cactus to stay dormant, even if it already went so, but i haven't tried it. in my attached garage, it stays close to outside temps, but a little heat leakage from the house keeps it just above freezing on those cold nights.
