Need help with makeshift musical instrument

Hey guys i really need some help on this one, anyone got any ideas for this. I have to make an instrument for a music theory class, nothing to spectacular but something that does make a decent sound and could be played. Any ideas?

does it have to be a new and innovative design or can you make an instrument based off of ones that already exist?

make some kind of weird drum. They aren't too hard to make.

I saw this one thing, which is basically just a spring attatched to a tiny drum head on a small drum, and you shake the small drum, thereby making the spring wiggle, and it sounds like thunder. Try something like that.

Or... I'll draw something up for you on paint... I think it's a good idea.

here we go...



Its a cylindrical instrument that uses a spring at the bottom to push the cylinder in the middle back up after you push it down. The ribs on the sides scrape against the ribs on the inside of the larger cylinder when it is pressed, so it's sort of like an awkward drum that has a weird sound.

I don't believe it is an instrument that has ever been made before, and if it is, people are weird as hell. I was thinking instead of ribs on the inner cylinder, it would just have one rib sticking out, as to minimize friction for playing, but to still aloow sound.

Sweet Baked-Ass Idea:

Hollow out the inside of knife or dagger or w/e.  Make it into a little ocarina or something.  They should do that in the next Zelda game :tongue2:

It can really be anything, im just looking for something i can make in the next hour or so, its alreayd getting late. but my fault for starting it last minute. I'd feel better if i had atlast something to show him.

well if you are a lazy ass, go out and get some PVC pipe, and call it a didgeridoo.

Maybe make it go different directions with a connector to make it more unique to make it look like you thought it through more.

Other than that, just made a drum out of something. I don't know what materials you have around, so be creative.

get some glasses and fill them with varying levels of water.  Tune them with a guitar tuner and play them like a set of bells :wink:
