Here's my current setup:
1.4 Ghz Atlon XP (1.5 oc'ed) Abit KR7A 256 DDR RAM Radeon 8500 SB Live 80 gig 7200 RPM maxtor
The system performs quite well. The VIA KT266 chipset is rock solid with the latest drivers. It evens works with my SB Live, which apparently has problems on some VIA chipsets. Abit makes a nice KT266 board.. has RAID, ata 100, support for a full gig of RAM.. you can get the KT333 chipset now, and ata133 of course. You might want to wait for something that has USB 2.0 support.
When using Athlon XP chips, you can use a chipset from either VIA or AMD. I'm pretty sure there's more but they're not going to be as fast as VIA or AMD. If you're getting DDR 333 make sure it's rated to run @ 166 MHz.
The SB128 thing is likely onboard sound hardware.
I'd recommend a Radeon 8500 over a GF4 MX. It's only about $20 more and has way more features. I'm pretty sure it's faster, too. Radeon drivers are pretty good these days and I don't have any trouble playing games with my 8500.
You're getting $500 for your old CPU? Damn! Must be a Xeon with 1 MB or cache or something???
