Need new computer

I need a new computer, and I can't decide what to get. All I need is the tower itself, no monitor or printer. Right now I have a 120 Mz dinosaur and it's fucking worthless. I just need a machine that can run all of the latest screenwriter software and engine blueprinting software. Other than that, I want something that I can download music, trippy anamation, and porn as fast as possible, and can run my web cam in as near to real time as possible. Can I get what I need for around $600? How many Mz and megs of RAM do I need to be able to do what I want? I have been looking at Emachines. Are these things any good?

about Emachines, I don't know but ...

This computer (3 years ago) was top of the line, worked great etc etc (custom built by a small company), but as time wore on it just started breaking down a lot. well, i bought a new 3d card a while ago (geforce 2) and that didnt even WORK on my comp, so I bought a 933 processor and 128 mb RAM and tried it again, and for some reason it still wouldn't install. now the mouse jumps a lot, my computer crashes things for no reason at all, and freezes a hell of a lot...

the moral of that story is, don't buy from small custom computer companies, you won't be able to deal with all the heartache

many companies (such as compaq) sell great systems that will get the job done for quite cheap. due to how crappy my computer is running, im saving up all money i can and buying a fairly simple alienware comp, since they are pretty much the most trusted computer company on this planet. costly, but worth it

Thanks Mr. Blue. Yeah, I'm definetely not buying from some company I've never heard of, and I'm not about to start screwing around with installing upgrade chips and all that shit. Everyone I know who does that has problems, and it is never worth the money you think you'll save. I'm glad you posted on this topic, 'cause one of the thing I'd like to teach myself is how to create digital art. I'ts not the main thing I want to do on my next comp., but if I wanted to get into it, where would I start? What software would you recommend, and how much power do you need to create the kinds of pics you do? I really like your work, and I have no chance of ever being half as good as you, but what would I need to get started?
