Crock Pot Pasturizing

Anybody who wants to pasturize small amounts of straw dung combo or any other substrate can use an electric crock pot along with a candy thermometer. It isnt quick, but thats the object. You have time to do whatever else needs done. It's easy, forgiving & simple. Almost everybody has a crock pot, or knows someone who does. They are only around $20 -- 25 bucks for the cheaper ones -- brand new & only a few bucks at any thrift store. SixTango

I've never really thought of that. I know I have one...I'm not too sure on how it works. Would be still be looking at 160-175 degrees for one hour? The crock-pot is probably a lot easier to hold a constant temperature in! Have you used one successfully yet?

Yup. They take longer to reach the right temp. With a candy thermometer, they are a snap to use. But, just like riding a horse, it takes a little getting used to & some trials to get good at it. Once you have the heat setting & time down. Hook the SOB to a timer & preset it for the time your crock pot takes to do the job. Then, the timer turns the sucker off for you. Almost fool proof.
