Crock-Pot instead of Pot?

Hello,
my friend would like to know if a crock pot can be used with the same success as boiling the jars on the oven... If it is the same thing, how long in the crock pot? Thank you!

Actually, I once had the same thought myself. After all, what tempature does a jar have to be before all the matter inside is killed? Heck, I even thought of running the jars through a dishwasher.. mine gets pretty hot. heh.

i think the temp need to get up to around 200 f. but its prov best to use a pressure canner/cooker or a pot on the stove

A crockpot works fine. Just play with it ahead of time so you can find out at what setting water will simmer.

my friend has decided that for her first try, she'll be using a regular pot and lid... Maybe next time she'll use a crock pot, and she'll let you all know how long and what temp is just right...
