Re: False morels in georgia?

Yes, there certainly are false Morel mushrooms. There are also several different varieties of edible Morels.

Check out Chris Matherly's website devoted to Morel mushroom hunting; http://morelmushroomhunting.com/fullspeed.html

Chris lives in florida. I dont think hes ever found a morel here, he goes up to tennesse for his.

Atlanta Georgia area also has the wild Morels.

The timing is wrong for morels.

More likely to be something in the helvella or gyromitra genus, ususally toxic.

Mule, sometimes just the simplest act of Thinking there wont be any mushrooms, or Thinking you wont find any or many mushrooms, sometimes leads to...not finding any mushrooms.

Reminds me of the time I took somebody out looking for cubes one night....
((((fading into dream sequence))))

It was the third night in a row it had poured rain in southern Florida nearing the end of the drought of 2000. Dark and wet night, the lightning was incredible. Perfect night to start finding shrooms again, because I had found Two very nice cubensis earlier on in the day. Turns out that this person had a very negative attitude about mushroom growth that night. This person was actually saying out loud to me that there wasnt a single cube to be found. This person also had a insaciabley annoying emphasis on the word "mycellium". heheheh, "The Myceeeeelium simply is just not fruiting" "The mushrooms MYCEEEEELIUM is not mature enough yet" ... even went as far as telling to me about "The cultivation of MYCEEELLLIUUM for growing at home in plastic trays". I had a handful of small white puffballs that I found in the field, I showed them to this person (hahahah) and then what came out of this persons mouth still ceases to amaze me. ...this person said to me "There are no mushrooms out here.". Now, right there, even if there Were cubes out there to be found, chances of finding them that night evaporated into oblivian. Its needless to say, but I never have taken this person into the field ever since that stormy night.

heheheh I lost track of how that relates to moes topic.
