I'd like to hunt for them sometime. I don't even know where to look. Never even seen a morel before. I live in North Carolina. The piedmont area.

Nice finds. That "two headed" one is strange looking. Seems like quite a rare find. I've never found or seen any of those in pictures before, nice.

Very nice. What has the rainfall been like? I've been lookin here in SC and finding none. I'm thinking that it is just too dry. Then, I don't think you've got much rain either.?

It rained over the weekend and on Monday morning, I think. It's been dry since then, sunny with the temps near 80. Leaves are nice and crunchy when I'm walking around in the woods finding these things.

What is up dude, it's been a while.
Me and phish picked about 15 of the freshest morels I could ever hope for yesterday . I ate most of mine... WOW is all I can say.
Also, the subbs are booming, not in the normal spots though... I have a sprinkler watered spot.
Maybe you wanna go out tomorrow with me and phish to get more morels.
Peace
:peace:

ps-  phish, post the pics already!!! Call me after 2 tommorow.
I had a great time in the woods and out and about:sun:

Subbs, eh? I've been checking my backyard patch and I think it's dead.

I'd be down for some morel hunting tomorrow; I don't have shit to do. If phish isn't working tell him to call me(or I'll call him) and I can drive out there or you guys can come out here and we can look for some new patches. All the Morels I've been finding are retarded small; you've seen th pics. I want to find those 3-4" cap morels. I think the key is hunting near old trees and large bodies of water (ie: the river).

LizardKing and I are going to hunt morels/cubes this weekend so hopefuly I'll be posting pics of that soon. I'll let ya know how it goes.

It made me feel really full and glowing, after eating only a few with a medium spring mix salad.
With how rare they are and how they taste, compared to chanterelles, they are not a plausible meal plan for permanent midnight snacks.

No luck today at the Park,
I looked in spots that looked really good for about an hour

I work all day tomorrow, but I suggest to anyone look now, while they are still out. Now the wait begins.
*rain dance*
But you don't need the rain when you're the rainmaker(or sprinkler maker )
PS- do morels stay freesh when attached to the myc as long as other mushrooms? or do they stay mature and good looking for up to weeks.

How long will they be up( with this rain) and if I look Sunday, what are the chances of my luck in relation to the freshness factor.

Not sure really. They do dry out. It seems like they last 3-5 days after they initally show up. Best to find them ASAP because slugs like them. I think something else may eat them because I've been finding a lot of stems with no caps.

As far as how long they'll be around I'd say another 2 weeks if we're lucky. They already seem to be slowing down so it might be just 1 more week. Their season is retardedly short.

I have gone hunting for hours and i have only found a single morel, and than a day before that i found another one that so small i never bothered to even pick it. I think im gonna give up on the morels and concentrate on some of the better foraging thats coming up soon.

Yo Flowie hit up my cell we need to do some foraging or something.

I hit you up, T-R-C, we need to hit it, fo sho.
check your PM's

Waterbug, you have no idea how lucky of a find it was.
He picked the spot to go check, and within the first 20 mintues, we found every single one there.
And then, over the course of 5+ hours over two or three days, me or him did not find another one .
The were absolutely fresh and awesome tasting . It was a blessing

THat's really sad.
Did you dry any of your morels? I dried one for a keep sake, but I wish I could load up on them, for summer storage.
No rain on the forecast, high temps in the day. Pretty much it's over already, right?

Between me and my buddy we cooked up all 5 or so lbs we've found this season and ate them.

It's not necessarily a lost hope. I've been finding a lot of morels within feet of creeks or wetland... places that are inherently moist. Problem is that some of my best spots are a bitch of a hike to get to.
