Southeast Morel finds (Update! PICS!)

I was just wondering if anyone in the southeast has been out looking for morels.
Poplar trees are starting to bud so that means morel season should be soon. I've been looking, but so far I haven't seen any. Once I do I'll be sure to post pics here.
Updates:
4/5/06 AH HA!
I found my first morels on Monday, been hunting every day since then.
Here are pics of the first finds of the season:

Unfortuantely I haven't taken my camera out hunting with me lately. I will soon.
Here's pictures of all of my finds from the past 3 days. Thats a standard Moto RAZR and my knife for reference...The knife blade is 3.25in. Pics:

A funky two "headed" morel:

In a container to be weighed:

They ended up weighing 3/4 lb. Wewt.
They're in the fridge for now, I'm going to cook them up tomorrow night probably.
I'll be hunting more tomorrow probably, looking for new patches. I spoke with LizardKing on the phone and he's doing just as well. We're supposed to go hunting for morels and check out the cube patches over the weekend, I'll bring my cam along.

I've read reports that o couple were spotted in northeast Alabama. Another of a few in south central kentucky. Other than that, just one find in texas and a couple in cali.... at least publicly...

Sometimes if you blink you can miss the season. It comes and goes pretty fast some years. The prime pickings that is. It depends on conditions though.

Yeah, I only caught the last half of the season last year. I started looking at the end of Febuary this year. Still nothing.
Yessup: I usually find morels growing near hardwoods (Poplar, Elm, Sweetgum, etc).

I will still look though.. Hell I kinda have a knack to find strange and unusual shit..

It varies. I'm convinced that God hates Georgia. It got up to 85 here last week, yet it's supposed to be 54 on Monday. We seem to have a week or two of temps of 70-80 then a week or two of temps 45-60.

Morels have been found in georgia, texas, illinois, tennesse, kentucky, alabama, california, south carolina, and arkansas already this year. Most of those finds in the last week. t's happening, although still early.
I'm gonna post my morel links again, hope you guys don't mind... http://matsiman.com/messages/buyerpickermessagesA.htm http://mushroomexpert.com/morels/maps/progress_maps.html http://www.morelmushroomhunting.com/morelfinds.html http://www.morelmania.com/6Sightings/index.html http://www.morels.com/
Between those boards and maps, plus the ability to look at last yeasr fruiting patterns (via the old maps and the old posts), almost anybody anywhere in the country can not only get an idea of WHEN, but also WHERE the morels in there area fruit.... Good luck to you all, and i can't wait to see some pics of your morel finds... peace

I went hunting for morels today, thought I saw one in the distance but ended up being a pine cone standing straight up . Wasn't expecting to much though since I can't even remember what rain is.

It is definitely an earlier season than normal. A friend of mine found 80 large Yellow Morels today in Georgia, tallest was 6 inches!
