Where are you located, roughly?
What kind of research are you doing, if you don't mind my asking? Just curious.

Yeah. Why do you want to find some death caps??? They're all over my yard,(I live in Tennessee). What kind of research do you plan on doing? It's a pretty established fact that they kill you very slowly and painfully... What more would you need to know?

I am in the gulf coast region of Texas right now. Just started a batch of non-deadly ones today as a matter of fact

As for ye olde death caps...I am thinking about making this part of my senior project in college. I know that they cause cells to rupture and organ failure after eating them, but I want to see if I can't find some good in them. If any of you guys has a link to a picture of one of them, that'd help out some. I was also wondering about an easily accessible book that I could use in a field study to help me identify what's what.
In Tennesee? I've seen some growing in the grass around campus here, but I have no idea what kind those are. I know they'd make you sick if you ate them, but I dunno if they're the deathcap ones or not. I looked in an encyclopedia and they had a man made drawing of one... didn't really help. hehe... Well, I gotta get going. Thanks for the help thus far.

You better get some identification books if you want to play around with those kind of mushrooms! Or join your local mycological society.

By the way, I'm studying grenades, anybody know where I can find one?

No, that wouldn't make a good senior project. Besides, people die slowly from them. very painful too. I'm not majoring in death or killing.
Thank you all for your input.

Massachusetts to virginia, west to ohio; pacific nw to california and spreading

under conifers and hardwoods, near planted juniper and dogwood ...appears in urban areas under european conifers and native oaks, if that helps

Just a few questions:

>but I want to see if I can't find some good in them

What do you mean by "good in them", other than looking at their marvelous beauty I can't think of any possible uses, especially since they should never be taken internally (or externally for that matter)

>I've seen some growing in the grass around campus here, but I have no idea what kind those are. I know they'd make you sick if you ate them, but I dunno if they're the deathcap ones or not.

How do you know they would make you sick if you don't know what kind of mushroom it is?

I still think something smells fishy about this, you should learn a lot more about mushrooms and in particular the death cap before you go looking for it. Buy yourself a mushroom identification guide and be very very careful.
