prison visits

I was just curious if anyone here has (and sure there are a good number of people that have) visited anyone in prison? I have already been to the Institutions website and read the rules about visiting but I was really more curious on how much of a hassle it is and what they do to you when you get there.

Depends on which prison you go to but most are the same level of security. You will have to walk through metal detectors, cant have cell phones, money, lighters. You might get patted down. You will probably give you a temporary badge too. Its a bit of a hassle but I'm sure the person you are visiting would be VERY grateful to see you.
Nothing helps inmates out more than a positive friend that writes and visits often. Even a half page letter in the morning can really brighten up an inmates day.

Yeah most people feel like that, but it'll help the guy out. Being alone in prison for an extended period of time is one thing but nobody coming to visit while you're there could be the breaking point or something.
I just had to empty my pockets and get patted down, but that was visiting a jail not a prison, so I don't know how extreme they may get.

i've only visited a minimum security prison, so i that's all i really know about. i'd imagine prisons where people are doing life are a lot tougher on restrictions. the one i went to was pretty lax though. there were metal detectors and they patted down my pockets. i could have taken in an ounce of something in a number of different ways and handed it to him. no one was even paying attention to us whenever i got in. instead i just brought bacon cheeseburgers which was very much appreciated.

I wouldn't want to be visited if I was in prison. All it would do for me is remind me of the outside and make me feel even worse after that person left. I've never been to prison but when I spent a couple months in jail I hated having visitors.

Well I can guarantee the only people that have visited him are his parents, he has no friends anymore. It's not a max security though, he is in for a very serious offense so I don't know how that would effect my visit at all.
