Hmmm, definately a Bolete, but what species I'm not exactly sure. I did a little research and came up with a few possibilities. I think it might be Boletus frostii. It grows in your region and instantly stains blue when cut/handled. It has yellow flesh when cut at first, then quickly blues. And its season is late June-October.

Heres a pic:

My second guess would be Boletus subvelutipes?

What'd ya think MJ?

The Lizard,

hey thanks a lot for taking the time lizard

the inside of the stems blued instantaneously so it got me thinking

all kinds of bugs were living inside most of the caps so i was far from interested in eating them.

also, their mycellium was particularly exciting, big bright yellow globs of it

exciting day of mushroom hunting yesterday
i found at least 6 species that i had never found before!

mushrooms everywhere in the forest

Nice pics of those Boletes, a good example of how 'bruising blue' doesn't always mean the shroom will get you high.

Keep looking and I'm sure you will find hundreds of different species as the months go by!

They are poisonous boletes and yes they do stain blue but they have no gills and they do not have chocolate to purple-brown or even black spores. And they should not be compared to psilocyeb or Panaeolus mushrooms which do stain blue and have gills.

If you want psilocybin mushroms then you do not eat anything with white, gills or orange gills. That should include Conocybe species, Agrocybe, Galerina's and/or Amanita mushrooms (which are deadly and have white spores. and no need to need opr look for shrooms with spongy porous bottoms like the boletes if you are looking for psilocybine containing mushrooms.

What you do is eliminate 5000 species of mushrooms you do not want to eat and then go after the common ones which are abundant all over the world. The cubes, the liberty caps, the blue ringers, the Psilocybe cyanescens and/or the Copelandia/Panaeolus strains.

Yes there are 178 species which contain psilocybine and psilocine.

and about seven of these are common that you really do not nbeed to search out those others.

Mj
