hi tom, the mushrooms you are describeing are not cubensis. but they do grow wild in new orleans.

here is a closeup picture of the gills from a cube i picked here in southern florida about a hour ago

yep, those aren't cubes.
cubensis is the only kind i've ever looked for, picked, ate, etc. and i know my stuff.

they should bruise blue and NOT have light colored gills like white and yellow. it should be more like dark gray to purple
