Hey,
My bro found these growing off our mop, and i wanted to know what they are
http://www.redbaran.com/images/
Habitat: Florida Indoors, on a damp mop in a bucket, pretty dark room
Gills: Skinny, brown, atached, grills Stem: 4", .5" at the base 1/4th an inch at the top, white, hollow, stringy
Cap: light graysh brown at the base, darker graysh brown at the top, concave, conical, shaped kind of like a finger, pretty firm, 1" Spore print color: not sure what that means, but the base of it was very cleanly atached to the mop all white all the way to the mop
Bruises: Darker gray
Smell: hard to discribe, kind of like store bought mushrooms, with a old dishwater smell
Sorry i posted this is the wrong place last

A mop??
Hahaha, okay then. Looks like a species of Conocybe. Perhaps Conocybe tenera.
Take a spore print: remove the cap from the stem and place the cap of the mushroom gills down on a piece of white paper and leave it alone over night. Remove the cap from the paper in the morning. I'm guessing a rusty brown spore print colour.

No need to push, you're not having a baby here. Lay the cap gills down on paper or better yet aluminum foil and cover it with a glass. let it site for hours. Remove the glass and the cap to see what color print you have.

Baycafe, I don't find a benefit to using a glaff for spore printing- in fact, I find that it can cause molding. Do you find any advantage to using a cup for spore printing??
p_dot_cubensis, I bet RogerRabbit could do it, check out these funky substrates he's mastered!

RR is pretty cool.

I do find a benefit for using a glass depending on the humidity. When it gets very dry and hot, delicate species such as the Conocybe above dry out and tend not to leave a decent enough deposit to get a true spore print color. The glass stops any slight drafts that might dry the carpophore out before I would like.

Hmm, good point. I guess it must be more humid here, cause I have not had this problem, the only problem I have had is excess moisture rotting the mushroom.
Good to know.

Try the foil instead and note that the mushroom should still be relatively young and fresh. The foil will guarantee you see a white print where white paper and a white print looks like nada.

Not a good idea to store any wet mushrooms in plastic bags. They will rot and get very nasty.
