hi,

LSD is an Ergoline, although present in Tihkal it's Not a tryptamine.

We cannot thereby simply classify it as a tryptamine psychedelic because its molecular structure also includes that of some psychedelic phenethylamines such as 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine (DOM) (Nichols [81], p.114). Nevertheless LSD is usually classified with the tryptamine psychedelics and seems more closely related to the them because it is more readily displaced from receptor sites by the tryptamines than by the phenethylamines. I see hermes br. Although it does have the tryptamine skeleton, which is the basis of why many people consider it a tryptamine. Could someone elaborate on this?

You're both right. It IS a tryptamine if you want to very simply classify it but it is more than just simply a tryptamine.

Hermes...does the chemical structure of LSA differ much from that of LSD? Considering LSD is synthetic, wouldnt LSA be the ergo-variation?

it's just one of those inaccurate generalizations...

below we have indoles alkaloids, but only two are tryptamines

I'd say this thread is dead. Everything has been covered, and this thread is only asking for more and more off-topic discussion. Good discusion, I must say. One of the better threads that I have seen in MH lately. But, all threads have to die, and I think this one might have to be locked for this to happen.
