    #757757 - 07/19/02 05:54 AM (20 years, 2 months ago)

A lot of my pins are aborting on my cakes, has anyone had this problem, and does anyone know the solutions? Thank you

I love growin' shitake mushrooms!

Many reasons are possible causes. The most likely is inefficient air exchange and/or lack of nutrients/water.

is it PF strain? That seems to throw off a lot of abhorts!

Air exchange is much less a factor than genetics, unsufficient nutrients, poor humidity or humidity variations.
Why else would we be able to fruit cubensis invitro??

Aborts can also be caused by co2 build-up.

Aborts are a normal when growing shrooms. I had a lot of aborts at the beginning of my last 12 jars. But in the end I ended up getting almost three oz.(PF technique, 1/2 pint wide mouth mason jars)

sure - you can cause a fruit to abort by misting it, but air exchange isnt a major one. You can fruit cubensis without any airexchange at all - ive done it before - and returned from my holiday to find skinny weird-arse shrooms but no aborts.
Stamets himself does not suggest that air exchange is a significant cause of aborts, but is more likely to cause freaked-out twisted fruits.
Fluctuations in humidity - an example is a person who leaves his/her grow-chamber open for a day then closes it and does not fan - the humidity goes from zero to 100%
