Yeah don't switch to mac, Mac sucks balls unless your getting this one Dual 2.5GHz Power Mac G5
Linux is usually better than Mac depending on what you do with your computer.

I'm getting a 2.4GHz Dualcore MacBook Pro w/ Leopard OS, 2GB RAM, and I'm using it mainly for recording music/sound engineering, photoshop, and possibly video editing.

I love macs, I have an Intel 2.4 ghz dual core, 2gb ram, 20" in screen. Never had a problem, no virus', never had it freeze, no blue screen of death, nothin.
Ableton live 5.2, garage band, im looking to get pro tools, Toast, and popcorn 3, Warcraft III, Age of empires III, Halo, Call of duty 2, Heroes of might and magic 5, Azurus, google earth, BIONIC and folding at home, Firefox. Also have electric sheep as my screen saver.
And i use all of those at least once a day, for hours ata time. And if i have to or want to i still have a 32 gb partition with windows on it.

I have 5 Powermacs, they're like my own personal Harem.
I chain them to render Bryce 5 animations with Bryce Lightning.
My favorite apps:
Bryce 5 Shakespeer (DC+ Client) Adobe CS Starry Night Pro Digital Performer NI Komplete Bundle
I've used Macs for 10 years and have never had a virus or crash, Macs Bounce!
