Constant Light
    #753822 - 07/17/02 02:07 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Would constant indirect light harm or inhibit the growth of my mushrooms? And by constant I mean 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.

I used to keep a light on 24 7 I've never had a problem with it. I do 12/12 now only because i have two terrariums so i alternate. Of course this is direct (grow lux) light. Although i think they benefit from some dark time but you won't hurt anything
with constant light

Well, since you asked...

One nanosecond of light per day is more than required because all mushrooms need light for is to know which way 'Up" is.

Mushrooms do not photosynthesis or anything of that nature. More or less night will not make the shrooms any more or less potent, bigger, etc. etc. etc.

My friend leaves his light on 24/7 with no problems. He uses a compact flourescent light.

Good luck

I noticed that the mushrooms grow longer stems if kept in a darker environment.

Stamets recomends for promordia formation and cropping:

Light: Diffuse natural or exposure for 12-16 hours/day of grow-lux type fluorescent light high in blue spectra at the 480 nanometer wavelength.
