Prankster239 hello, , i´m stuck in the hunting forum , i want to see and interact in the other forum but some how i´m stuck, but maybe now rainy season is over...... Bridgelisa . is impossible to find mexicana right now but i will take few pictures of the habitat soon. i don´t have to many ...... suimush . you are in my list ....... Somatic . hello i always think they look both alike ,do you mean to difference mexicana and semilanceata well , simple , semilanceata don´t grow in Mexico in despite of the colder environment we have, but so far so good, however if i find both of the species in the same field i will look for the gelatinous separate pellicle the semi have, then usually mexicana is more striate in the cap than semilanceata, also mexicana don´t have a sharp conic nipple as semilanceata, it does have nipples sometimes more rounded and like umbo, they prefer the same habitat in fact PS. mexicana is like the mexican counterpart of semilanceata but the latter preferring alpine pasture lands or open filed in the forest , but is the same here in Mexico , mexicana prefer pastures land close to the woods and open land in the forest ,did i say forest, yes not like cubensis that can grow in open pasture land in the well entire pasture lands, jaja . i will do my best to show this in pictures

not the best picture but the most big spore less

mexicana and some big zapotecorun a bit dry

I think when you find shrooms there is no or not much sclerotia in the soil. But it can also be that they dont form much sclerotia in the wild or only when the climate is not optimal.

sclerotia is a mechanism of survival to the mycelium , to dry conditions, and i always look in the wet season , what i think is some strain or races are most sclerotia formers, but i have notice this that sometimes mushrooms appear in the same area, year after year, so , is not like they are growing from spores every year some are some are from sclerotia, so what i think i will have to do to find sclerotia is a combination of things: 1-i will have to find a place where the place be more loose, or soften hard soil mycelium don´t grow to good. 2-i will have to mark this place , has to be a place where many family's appear, through the season , really productive and mark at least 10 3- in the dry season will have to begging to check like in this month that the season is at the end ,and they don´t grow anymore the soil is dry and the grass is beginning to yellow and seed and dye , that all the food for then i mean there is nothing unless soil that they can eat and the pulverized shit of all herbivores. so they need that mechanism to survive ,they are not like dung lover´s where they have to begging all the time from spores, no that why PS. MEXICANA IS THE FIRST TO APPEAR because the mycelium is half way grow and have enough nutrients to begging to fruit with the first rains , then of course one of the faster dung lover is of course all panaeolus and copelandia that appear the first is the inactive pan. antillarun or equivalent, then the active pan and copes, you all know that copes are the most fasts mycelium to grow and fruit only need 2 weeks sometimes , but for cubensis well thing are different it have to grow for over a month sometimes , but by the time he comes out it will be the kind of the prairie, kicking all copes out ,but mexicana don´t care even dare to face him face by face or maybe they where just kissing each others-
