Which computer is better?

Im buying a computer from a friend for low cost, as he needs money to pay for his new laptop.

Heres the specs:

perAMD 4000+ Processor w/ 450 Watt power supply
Gigabyte GAK8NSC Motherboard
1 Gig DDR Ram PC 3200
16* DVD Burner
Keyboard
Windows xp
300 gig Hard Drive
Radeon X800XL Video Card


And currently i have this: (dont know jack about computers.)


3200+ AMD athelon XP processor

512mb DDR SDRAM memory

DVD RW/CD RW

48x cdrom drive
integrated graphics and 64mb shared video memory
Processor speed 2.20ghz, 512kb, L2 cache, 400mhz, front side bus.


Im going to sell one of them to my roommate and keep my monitor. Which should i keep?

safe your files to a cd or dvd then they will be backed up

or get an exteranl hard drive which is quicker but you should always backup your files to cd/dvd because hard drive can die any moment as ive discovered

just slave your current hard drive, so you'll have two disks in the computer, your old one with all your old files, and you new fresh one

I grabbed an external drive today.

Now im booting up my new system, and its asking if i want to start with Window vista Ultimate, or windows xp?

Which is better?
