advice on cakes
    #752575 - 07/17/02 07:14 AM (15 years, 10 months ago)

I have 6 fully colonized gt cakes that have been in my terrarium for 12 days and have no signs of pins. I am using perilite for humidity and i am giving them fresh air and misting once a day. the cakes are fluffy and look fine but i thought i would see at least a couple pins by this time. this is my first time getting to this stage so any advice would be appreciated.

Patience is a virtue but twelve days is a while. You could always try dunking them overnight in the refirgerator to cold shock them and remoisten them.

The humidity might be too high for fruiting. How much condensation is on the inside walls of your terrarium? If there are large droplets and alot of dripping, the humidty might be too close to, or at 100%. I'd buy a good hygrometer to measure the RH. Try to keep it at about 96% - 98% (that has worked best for me).
