Re: Hunting in Ontario, Canada

Hey Vorpal, I too live in Ontario and was wondering the same thing. I managed to find some info posted by mjshroomer, i think, on this board, I included Michigan because where I live in Ontario, near Windsor and Detriot, is very close to michigan. Here it is:
Michigan: You picked a good one, 13 species. However I won,t list them all.
Conocybe smithii,
Gymnopilus aeruginosus,
G. liquirae,
G. Luteofolius,
G. luteus,
G. sapineus,
G. spectabilis,
G. validipes,
Panaeolus subbalteatus,
Pluteus salicinus,
Psilocybe carerulipes,
Psilocybe liniformans var. americana,
Psilocybe silvatica.
and there you have it.
mj.

In Ontario:
Amanita muscaria,
Gymnopilus spectabilis,
G. Viridans,
Panaeolina foenisecii (not psycho).
Panaeolus sphinctrinus (not psycho),
Panaeolus subbalteatus,
Psilocybe caerulipes,
Psilocybe silvatica,
There could be 'liberty caps' is is possible. Someone just needs to go look.

I would ,however, like more info on finding shrooms in this area, anyone who has experence with this or any info at all that may help me please post. Questions I have: Under what climate conditions should I go hunting? Which type of mushroom is found da most in the spring? I live near some woods and a cow pasture, which ones could be found in these areas? And is it true that if a mushroom turns blue from handling it, it is what your lookin' for?
Thanx

Panaeolus subbalteatus has a cosmopolitan distribution from Australia and South America in the austral Flora zone, from China to Europe to the United states as far north as Alaska and as far south as Argentina.

This springtime magic species is common in rotted hay and sometimes manure and even in lawns at race traciks and riding stables.

I just posted a picture taken a year and a half ago one and a half blocks from my house. The picture is under Panaeolus subbalteatus in my websites Ultimate Mushroom Hunting Field Guide at:

mjshroomer.yage.net

Mh Happy hunting and have a shroomy day.
