Just thought I'd share a couple of pics from St. John's, Newfoundland. I went out a couple of weeks ago and came back empty-handed, but managed to get a few libbies today while taking the pooch for a walk.
Nothing spectacular, but it's a start.
A handful.
Close up.
Sorry the quality isn't so hot, my camera isn't the best and I'm not much for photography.
How have the rest of you Newfs been making out?
Cheers.

I'm going out hunting for the first time ever, and I'm pretty sure I might have found afew small ones, just wanted to check to see what everyone thought, The darker one had the same shape as the white one, i just accidentally hit it and tore it up.

if you've found two in previous hunts, you only need to get used to the actual proccess of scouring, or scanning your habitat, as once you've found one in a particular location, it is safe to say there are others, and with semies, it tends to be many more.
the trick is knowing once you've found the first by luck, how to find the rest by recognizing where they are likely to be, or depending on the habitat, how to scan the area for them. i generally scan for round shapes and shiny things, as semies, when moist will be round and shiny in contrast to the grass which is made of of mostly straight lines, and many other [though not all] mushrooms which tend to be a bit duller in luster.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

yes, those mycenas tend to throw a lot of new hunters off, as they look a little similar in general appearance [such as aspect] and tend to be one of the most common mushrooms in these habitats.

yah we were thrown off the past two days by those small fuckers. it's our first season hunting and we've found three potentially great spots but have come up with nothing each time. Any suggestions? what weather to look out for and what parts of the pasture they can the be found? we found all those mycenas around the fringe of the pastures.

hi! I've just recently picked a few myself here in St. John's. Most of the liberty caps I've picked have had very dark gills (the kind that I normally look for) but today I found a little patch of mushrooms pretty much identical to the liberty caps with the dark gills but they had pretty light brown gills underneath and no dark ring around the bottom of the cap. That was the only difference I could distinguish.
They were found in the same field as the ones with the dark gills.
I tried doing a spore print and the colour is a medium purple brown.
Do you think these are hallucinagenic? I noticed that a lot of your caps also have brown gills underneath. Any ideas?
