a professor shared confidential academic information with another party (landlord)? Can I send a cease and desist letter to my landlord, if they used their position in the bursur's office to access confidential academic information?

Okay, it doesn't appear as though my prof shared academic information.

However, he told a coworker, my neighbor, that I repeatedly came to class stoned. This may seem funny to some here, but an accusation of a crime is defamation and slander per se according to my research. I'm wondering if this not a statement of fact but actually opinion. Isn't a crime implied here, because smoking weed is illegal?

My neighbor told this to my former landlord and it resulted, indirectly, in my deposit being withheld. According to my research, collecting on slander per se does not require actual damages being proven. I don't have any intent of collecting damages. Fortunately for my pocketbook, the landlord failed to meet the deadline laid forth in the law and as such agreed that no damages were due.
