AURORA WATCH: Tomorrow night, Sept. 14th, a solar wind stream is due to hit Earth, possibly triggering a geomagnetic storm. High latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras
If i have the money, the car, and the time, im just going to get in my car with a camera, and drive as far north as i can into canada to see the Auroras.
Its absolutely magical, i have seen them a few times, colors and shapes dancing in the sky.
For some reason the dates closest to the equinoxes seem to bring out stronger auroras than any other time of the year.......
On Sept. 3rd, auroras in Kirovsk, Russia, were bright enough to shine through clouds and twilight. Alexander Chernucho took the picture above using his Nikon D200 set at ISO 800. The complete panorama is a must-see.
As promised, the Aurigid meteors arrived last night after a stellar display of northern lights. I saw about 40 or 50 meteors over the span of an hour but could only photograph a handful.

Wow think I can see them in California? Atleast if I drive to the desert so I can actually see through the smog

I miss the northern light as brilliant as they were in AK. I've seen some pretty good ones in WI, but nothing like up at the north pole.

Since I moved out to BFE and have an impeccable view of the night sky, I'll be sitting on the roof with a bowl and a beer ready for the light show.
