Aurora lightshow tonight

The people at NOAA say there will be a good aurora show tonight due to a big solar flare that erupted Tuesday. So if you live in a good spot up north go outside tonight and have a look. I saw the Aurora Borealis a few years ago here in Michigan and it was hands down one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in my life.

That's a link to forecasts for the Aurora so you can see if your area will get a good show. I've got to work until 11 tonight but I'll probably take a short drive north of the city to see if I can catch a glimpse.

That's a beautiful pic, DRT.

a2ndopinion, I'm sorry to hear that. They're supposed to be able to be seen along the horizon as far south as Chicago. And they're supposed to be going on for at least another day. If you had time you could drive north to a spot with a big clearing and maybe get a decent show.

eh there is no gaurantee

the solar flare on tuesday was from sun spot 930, which at the time of the erruption was not aimed at earth...

the possible aurora tonight is from a high speed coronal hole which is directing some solar wind towards the planet. this happens a few times a month, and really dosent show too much to us people that arent super far north
