If mycellia is dehydrated is it still viable?

If one where to dehydrate a liquid culture, made from apple juice. Would the mycellia still be viable? And would this sterilize the culture? Would this allow the mycellia to be usable in the PF tek method?

I would guess not. I think it would be dead. Sclerotia (truffle-like myc), on the other hand, can be rehydrated.

according to this post by fahtster you can->
"you can also use this tek to store substrains.. mycelium can be dried and reanimated with water. just take off the tape on the tyvek"

Mushroom tissue will store for years once dried. You have to be careful in doing so though. It would be far easier to dry out a grain or brf jar than an LC though.
You can also bring mycelium from dried mushrooms back, by first soaking in sterile water for a couple of weeks, and then placing on agar. RR

Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to just store it in sterile water in the fridge? Or does drying have other benefits?

dried mushrooms take less space, especially in powder form. You could fit the whole psilocybe and pan collection in a matchbox. (I'd like to have that matchbox... )

I was just curious about this, because a fellow shroomerite posted a method of harvesting the spores from a bag of purchased mushrooms. He said to simply add apple juice to the bag n shake, then put juice back in a jar and wait a while. He said once you see the mycellia forming to then place bamboo bbq skewers (like for shishkabobs)SP? In the mycellia solution(mixture?) n then these will become colonized. He said to then add to an outdoor hpoo n straw mixture or something. He said that this method is not suitable for PF jars because they most likey would contain many conaminants. So my question is by dehydrating the skewers can I then succesfully introduce the mycellium into a PF jar that can then be cased or used to start a monotub, with a reasonable chance of success? Would I have better chances of obtaining a sterile um -ghetto culture- by sticking these in a h2o2 solution or something? I would really appreciate some help cause I live in CA and have no access to spores, and frankly I dont want to risk ordering off of sites that might ship here, just because im paranoid.. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.. Peace Love & Paranoia! lol

No. I'd suggest renting a PO box in Nevada. RR
