Re: Honey water mycellia...what are the down falls if any??

The spores use the honey as a growth medium (instead of brown rice flour) and start to grow mycelium. The mycelium grows in the liquid honey mixture instead of on the rice substrate as normal. After the mycelium has grown for awhile (looks like floating fluffy bits) all you do is add a bit of h202 then suck this up into a syringe (no spores left at this point...) and inject into a normally prepared jar. Then the mycelium bits have a new home and continue growing. The theory is pretty simple, and it seems to work pretty well.

I'm curious how long such a honey syringe will keep? Must you use it fairly soon?

they don't keep very well, unfortunately.
the mycellia will die shortly after consumming all the available sugars.
refridgerating after germnation will slow death but in jars stored thusly, i had zero success after 3 weeks.
so your best bet is to use them after 1 week but less than 3.
otherwise, this tek kicks ass.
got 4 jars just full of myc.
off half a syringe of spores.
enough to inoculate scores of jars.

there are several threads discussing honey water tek at drooldonkey.
not as popular here but that may be changing soon.
one reason it's not promoted here,
beside the association of the tek with me, drooldonkey and alt.drugs.mushrooms,
may well be because it is not very profitable for those who would like to sell more spores.

I would say any syringe is a endless supply of spores. If you use 10 CC's of spores, into 10 to 12 jars, and you grow *blah* amount, you will have *blah* amount of prints which are able to make *blah* amounts of syringes. So if you now have 10 syringes, and you grow 100 jars, you will have *blah*x100 amount of prints and *blah*x100 amount of syringes. Now you have 100 syringes...

atleast thats my $0.02

only 1 problem with your logic--
it's not that easy to get sterile prints and make sterile syringes in a home set-up.
just ask workman or ryche.
buying a guaranteed sterile syringe and multiplying it via the honey tek is within everyone's abilities even in a primitive environment.
