New Powershot S5 IS

So I just got a new Canon PowerShot S5 IS today at a store. Well...let me tell you, there's tons of great features about it, one which I love is the image stabilization feature. Tell me if this doesn't sell you on the camera by itself though.

I was in my friend's house, and I took a picture of the light/fan from the doorway (~10 feet away). Here's the picture:


Well...I was curious and zoomed in (optical and digital) to one of the lightbulbs. Here's the results :wink:

i was actually looking at possibly getting one of these. but the $355 pricetag on amazon is a might bit more than i'm able to spare.

so then i looked at the previous generation, the s3, which was $300, and still has very good photo quality but lacks some of the s5 features, such as:
* Higher resolution sensor (8MP vs 6MP)
* Digic III processor (S3 IS was Digic II)
* Larger, higher resolution LCD screen (2.5 inches vs 2.0 inches)
* Hot shoe flash connector
* Higher top ISO sensitivity (1600 vs 800)
* Increased movie clip limit (was 1.0 GB, now 4.0 GB)
* Couple of new features (including red-eye removal, face detection AF)
* Reduced continuous shooting (burst) speed
* Slightly heavier

then i looked at the s3's competitor, the panasonic lumix dmc fz8k which was only $245 and i thought i had found a winner... as soon as i get the money that is.

but now, i'm looking at amazon again, and it looks as though the s3 is only $280 now, and there's actually a combo deal for a 1gig memory card with the camera, total $290. but... there's also a combo with a 2 gig memory card with the panasonic, total of $268. oh man.. decisions decisions.

and i'm very sorry. my rambling train of thought totally threadjacked. But congrats on your awesome new camera purchase!! make sure you put it to good use!
