BIG MARSHMALLOWS ON SIDE OF ROAD AT FARMS

You know those big marshmallow looking things at farms that are on the side of the road all the time sit there all summer. I was wondering what are those things are they filled with compost??? I saw one opened before and there was a bunch of straw everywhere. Also if it is filled with compost could you make a huge mycelium syringe out of a soda bottle or something then just inject that into the huge marshmallow getting a huge set up?

Theyre silage

If they donthave a silo, or if they dont want to kinda "bury" it, they get these cheap plastic bags, and fill em with silage so they can feed thier animals after harvest, etc.

...forgot to answer your 2nd question... I think it would probably be too acidic in there, and it would be wasted effort. Also, sometimes farmers add in thier own bacteria to raise the acidity quickly then stop, and maybe a few other minor ones.. they would probably compete with the spores for nutrients and all.

Edit: Then again, if you filled one with your own mix of whatever substrate, inoculated it, you might get a HUGE cake kinda thing. Then just pull the plastic off, and let it fruit. (tho it would have to be under some kinda cover...). Interesting thought tho.
