Anyone familiar with CB Radios and antennas?

Well, as you all probably already know, I'm going on a roadtrip through the PNW, travelling across a couple of states, and I'm going to be taking many different routes.
I'd like to get a CB radio for my trip, the only problem is I don't know anything about CB Radios, or the antennas. I know i want a powerful one that can be heard a good distance, not just 5 miles, maybe 25-30+ (shrug), but I want it discrete, I've got a car, I heard coiled antennas are the way.

Anyone able to shed some knowledge?

A good antenna will boost your reception but if you wanna talk that far you'll have to boost the power of the transmitter.
