Re: Are drip shields 100% necessary in terrariums?

I used a napkin for a drip shield over my case in a terrarium with perlite humidification and it worked fine. I just had to change the napkin every couple of days.

if you are using perlite you shouldn't have to spray so a spry sheild is unnessasary but if you decide to spry then you should have a spray shield

well for my tank, i have created a small tent like structure using a garbage bag and two wire coat hangers. since its tent-like, the sides of the bag are sloped, and act as a drip shield as well as a cover. this also allowes more room for air (on the neg side more means more risk of contams, but then again the cakes are fully colonized)

Hi,
If you're using perlite you don't need a drip sheild. Drip sheilds are only really used when you are manually spraying in order to achieve humidity.

The perlite will act as your main source of humidity so you don't need to spray:-)

And since you have a bubblier, you'll only need to open the lid when you're ready to harvest:-) No fanning required! Thats always nice.

I use perlite, and for some reason it is not keeping humidity up to par... some of my casings tend to dry out, particularly towards the end of cropping. So I spray. No drip shield. I haven't seen any harm in spraying them at this late stage of the game.

Spraying between flushes seems to help total yield in my experience.
