heat lamps dont use too much power, and do produce alot of heat, i dont see why not, if you can control the temps the light has on things?... either through a timer or a thermostat?... Dont see why not, the goal's to get the temps up right?... a heat lamp would do that nice.... or you could try a 'heat bomb' or TiT setup?... whicheva, goodluck.:mushroom2:

This was my setup:



I had a ceramic heater with a reptile temperature regulator/timer. It kept things +/-2 degrees of where I had it set.

Heat lamps are a bad idea; you can let your jars colonize on a shelf (even in a lit-room) as long as the temperature is above 70oF

I did, however, do this and turned PF jars upside down for a week too long,
and had the first in-vitro pinning on PF cakes EVER.
It wasn't a "problem".

heat lamp bad idea, erase it from your mind.
incubating below 78 degrees, get it out of your mind.
please build a proper incubator and keep a STEADY heat of 79*F, once your myc starts colonizing, you'll reach that ideal 82-83*F..

i can care less what RR says about open light, on the shelf, room temp incubation... it's just not efficient.

LC inoculated jars incubating at approximately 72oF



Getting rid of the heat source also gets rid of the risk of fire, shock, and possible thermal death if the heating unit goes awry.

I'll take the increased safety over the 1 or 2 days that an incubator may shave off of colonization times.

I trusted in RR a long time ago, and I haven't used an incubator since.

In my experience, it pays to pay attention to the skilled and/or experienced.

? lol skilled or experienced huh? it's taking well over two weeks to finish your jars, and i'm positive that's an accurate guess. i can go start to finish first flush in that amount of time, plus, anyone who would keep someone doing brf pftek jars that long is ludicrous, step up to grains man you'll thank yourself. then spawn it to something.


yeah incubating in that manner is simply inefficient, and time wasted.

actully my incubater is set up with a low watt (60) that will hold 70-90 accuretly and it has a dimmer switch too regulate temp and a thermometer in it too watch the temp and it's not hot enoughf too melt the bag unless they touch which they wount cause the the metal piece is too big too fit inthe tank unless somone messes with it which they won't so is it a bad or good idea after iexplained the detales

I wanted to do this too but some people dont think its a good idea...i think as long as you can keep the temperature monitored then why not right?
