Mother Teresa
    #7327020 -

NPR reported today that her memoirs are being released in book form. The big revelation is that she claims to have been depressed for years because she could not feel any real presence of God in her life. Not a lick.

How about them apples?

I'm pretty sure that believers will find an excuse for this too.

An excuse for what....?  For someone else....?    :smirk:
Should people just take the very short original post (which may be very out of context), and believe it....?

You have already taken a side, knowing very little about it....
Come on..........

Hmm do you remember that thread about our beloved pope admitting the evolutionist theory and some Christians were still for good old Adam and eve? The same thing can be said here.

No but we can always speculate on it. :sherlock:

No, I haven't spent a lot of time in here lately, your comment just seemed like an attack at ANYONE on the "believer" side....

Perhaps I have take YOU out of context, but that stuff wasn't in this thread, so it's not my fault....!

You think it's journalistic scraping to critique the memoirs of a historically significant person?

Or is the idea that a mega-faithful person finally found no God on the other end of her faith unpleasant?

I don't think Mother Theresa is historically significant and could care less what Mother Theresa experiences were, I have a real predjudice when it comes to missionaries. I sort of think of missionaries as busybodies with a bible, or whatever holy book they are beholdin to.

my first reaction to this thread was. sure, who the hell hasn't been depressed by the seeming emptyness of existance. then my next reaction was, that perhaps mother teresa's definition or idea about god was her delusion. no matter though, i care not about mother teresa's expiriences, only my own. i fail to see the point of this thread. so mother teresa says she didnt feel god in her life, so jihadists say they do, so what. people are interesting, but its important to remember that none of us know what the hell is going on here.

The letters that revealed this were actually requested by Mother Teresa to be burned upon her death.

The fact that they're now in a book is a bit sketch.

The faithful have never been known for open honesty. They prefer half-truth or outright lies if the truth will undermine their dogma.

That's why Galileo was imprisoned for life and his telescope confiscated when he tried to show the faithful that Earth was just an ordinary planet orbiting a star and the universe did not revolve around God's masterpiece Earth.

I'm not surprised she wanted them burned.

I'll bet the church wanted them burned as much as she did.

The point of this thread, like your last sentence is that no one knows what the hell is going on and just because they say they do or some institution holds them up as a shining example for their propaganda that just don't make it real.

She was a sadistic bitch who reveled in the suffering of thousands... Her 'hospitals' were not much more than death camps.

I always laugh when people mention how great she was...

I don't know if that is true but I was always mystified by how someone who saw so many thousands of children suffer and die from starvation could come out and support the churches stand on birth control. IMO that's just outright sick.

Because she was a sadist... that's how.

Quote:
We all know the name Mother Teresa. She won a noble peace prize for her humanitarian work and founded the Missionaries of Charity. When She was on her world tour she gathered millions (rumored to be billions) of dollars from the rich because they believed that she would be able to help the poor and suffering in India. Many people would believe that India was and currently is eternally grateful to her. But what did she really do with all that money? It surely wasn't used to improve the conditions of the suffering.

Mother Teresa's money was mostly spent on religious activities and not on the poor. She built a hundred facilities all over the world with her name and organization 'Missionaries of Charity' on each one. Most of them were nunneries used to train uneducated and obedient young women of her ways of God worship. Making other women act like her, thus sprang her 'cult of suffering'.

I can imagine her Home for the Dying in Calcutta India is the most depressing place to be. Even though Mother Teresa had billions she couldn't even give these dying people proper beds. They're all little hammocks and some have to share with others with different diseases. They weren't allowed to go anywhere else but on the beds. They had to go in this unsanitary toilet in front of other people. They aren't allowed visit from their friends or their relatives. Strange.

Your already dying but do you have to suffer like this? She didn't believe that these people really need any antibiotics because they were going to die anyway. How much did she cared about her health? When she got sick, she took herself straight to the best heart specialist in New York. I think she really does believe in getting rid of suffering but also believes that other people need to suffer...except for her.

She wasn't interested in curing any of these sick people even though she had a ton of money to do so. Why would Mother Teresa intentional want people to suffer? "The suffering of the poor is something very beautiful and the world is being very much helped by the nobility of this example of misery and suffering," a quote from Mother Teresa herself. Sounds like she had an obsession with the suffering of other people.

Sadism is the pleasure or gratification in the infliction of pain and suffering upon another person. Sounds so much like her doesn't it?

People might argue that she wanted people to live in poor conditions so that she could identify with the people whom she was with and be closer to Jesus. It basically means she wanted to feel better about herself by watching people die. Which make her sound even more of a sadist really.

No matter what those who believed in her from the beginning will always try to make excuses up for her.

I think she was misunderstood in this regard.

She was a militant believer in her Vows of Poverty. To that belief, she insisted that the nuns under her wear the same shoes until the souls wore through and the nuns started bleeding from broken blisters before she would authorize new shoes, for example.

She extended this (pathological, I think) idea to everything she touched, including patient care in hospitals. If the patient could get well on one meal a day instead of three, they got only one because God demands poverty.

I don't think she intended to inflict suffering but to please God. With her memoirs in hindsight, I think she was intensifying her commitment to her Vows of Poverty throughout her life in an effort to gain God's favor, which she apparently never found.

I don't think she was a sadistic bitch, though that was the practical effect of her life on others. I think she was deeply disturbed but well meaning.

So much for God's good deeds.
