here in the big apple weve been going through a heatwave recently ... outside temperatures have been pretty consistant around 90 for the past 8 days or so.... I innoculated 24 jars last monday and have seen some pretty amazing colonization.. my concern is that the night temperature sometimes drops to 70 or so... Is it necessary to keep the temperature constant to ensure even colonization??? Right now the jars are sitting on top of my fridge (in the cardboard cases they came in) which does throw of some minimal heat..

hummm, im guessing this will turn into a grow log. Otherwise wrong forum. An incubator is good because it will speed up colonization time in comparison to not using one at all. If you use fish heaters and rubermaid containers will lead to keeping the air within a nice humidity range so your jars will not dry out. It's all on how fast you want your jars to colonize. I'd say spend a few bux on a fish heater (100 watt) and two rubermaid's, it's a good investment. You should go by the temp that is in your house, it may be 90 outside but your house may stay around 75 or so. This is why the incubator is good, so when you take them out of the incubator and into the grow/fruiting chamber they will experience a 10 degree or so temp drop. You must have this drop for proper pinning and fruiting. Thats my two cents. Here are some incubator ideas for ya, http://www.mycotopia.net/teks/incubator.html http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm

I was just getting ready to build myself an incubator ( the double rubbermaid container type) and I just had a few questions?
I have 2 50 gallon containers ( i know thats prolly pretty big but Wally World had them on special for $6.00 ) anyways I was going off of this design type http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm
The questions I have, 1. i only have a 25 watt Aquarium Heater. will this be sufficent or is this a joke?
2. Also is there any contaminet issues with the water in the bottom container??
Any help on these 2 questions would be greatly appreciated and also if anyone has any other tips or tricks that worked for them I'd love to hear them.
Thank You all

It really depends on the outside temperature. If it gets very cold where you live, it might be too little. But try it out first, it might be enough.

No.
