H2O2?
    #731189 - 07/08/02 09:44 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

I just read something on perlite. It said that I should bake the perlite at 350 for an hour or so, put 1.5 inches of it in the terr. 3/4 of an inch of water and a little hydrogen peroxide. Why Hydrogen peroxide? Disinfectant? Also, I assume the water should be boiled, but will bottled water be just as good?

You dont need to bake the perlite. Soak it in water for 20min and then strain all standing water out. Dump this wet perlite into the bottom of your chamber and add some H202. The H202 keeps any nasties from growing in there.

common household bleach aka sodium hypochlorite is a much more effective disinfectant than peroxide,
and may be substitute for this application if desired.
just use 2 tablespoons bleach per gallon of water.
