Sorry dude, but that is not in A major....I tried playing in A, and it sound out of key no matter what part I played during. Dark Star has traditionally been played in D major and parts in A minor or C major. The tune was very modern compared to the old original Dead version but I heard very few notes that were different.
The verse, I heard as any other. I was playing along, like any other....key of D. The first chords, I believe is an A, but doesn't mean it's the key of A.
How I typically play the main theme or verse, different than bobby, but the melody is the same.
The tab isn't slightly messed up due to the font, but here is the traditional intro, with some theme licks. The key isn't different here, than they version you linked.
E------------|------------|----------------------------------- B------------|------------|----------------------------------- G----------7-|---------7--|----------------------------------- D---9p8-9----|-9p8-9------|-5h7--5--7--5-----------5-----5-7-- A------------|------------|---------------7-5h7------7-------- E------------|------------|-----------------------------------
E---------2--3--5-|--------2--3--5-5^7--5------------------- B---3h5-----------|--3h5------------------------------------- G-----------------|------------------------------------------ D-----------------|------------------------------------------ A-----------------|------------------------------------------ E-----------------|------------------------------------------
Here is the main theme, or verse of the song. The only different I noticed is someplaces they played a D where they might have played a G in the past. Either way, I here very similar structures and arrangements.
E--------5---3-5p3-----------|----5---3-5p3--7--5--3------- B--------5-----------5--3----|----5-------------------------- G--------------------------5-|-2----------------------------- D----------------------------|------------------------------- A----------------------------|------------------------------- E----5-----------------------|-------------------------------
But hell, this is just my quick stab at it. There were some off notes through the tracks, which could have lead you to believe it was in A, but I believe it's no different from the originals, as far a key goes.
Here is the lead line that goes over they lyrics.
E----------------------------------------------------------- B---3^5---5^3---2h3--2-------------------------------------- G-------------------------2h4--2--0---0-----0--2--0--------- D----------------------------------------------------2------ A----------------------------------------------------------- E-----------------------------------------------------------
followed by,
<- This crooked line of notes is your Em you heard. E------------------------------0---------------------0------ B---2--3--5--3--2--3--2--0-----0---------------------2------ G---------------------------0--0---------------------2------ D---2--4--5--4--2--4--2--0-----2---------------------2------ A------------------------------2---------0--2-2p0-2--0----- E------------------------------0---0-2-3-------------0------
The little jazzy run back down to em again. I played this note for note with the recording, and it matched up perfectly. E---------------------------------0-------------- B---2--3--5--3--2--3--2--0--------0-------------- G---------------------------0-----0-------------- D---2--4--5--4--2--4--2--0----4---2-------------- A---------------------------------2---------0--2- E---------------------------------0---0-2-3------
