    #7243455 -

I saw lots and lots of mushrooms on a hike today, and tooks LOTS of pictures... lots more than I'm putting up here. But i just figured i'd show some of the cooler pics.

First are some nice Chantrelles.
Cantharellus Cibarius

Cantharellus Minor

Cantharellus Cinnabarinus

This second batch is just to show how abundant these things are in my area... they grow by the hundreds EVERYWHERE.. the second pic was taken along a road... they completely line the road. its cool, and very pretty.

Now for the non-chants

Cortinarius Iodes

Russula Emetica with some nasty fuzz growing on it

Some other mushroom that I havent bothered to I.D.

And last but not least, the wierd, siamese triplets bolete

And now just some pics of my hunting grounds

Great photos. In fact, they're gonna make me skip out early from work and go for a little hunt.

Its like a king and his army haha.

Think this is Lactarius camphoratus

This is the unidentified one from the first post. Think its Enteloma murraii.

Not sure, but Hygrophorus conicus?

another pic of my hunting area

A cool little place you could crawl into and make your home haha.

ya, i'm not a huge fan of running into snakes.. they're cool and all, but i have a couple poisonous kinds that live in the area... thats why i always have my cell phone, just in case... i could totally see "survivorman" living in a hole like that though haha... its kinda hard to tell from the picture, but its like a mini-cave.. it goes back probably like 6 feet underground and its maybe 5 feet across.. and its underneath a huge tree.. really cool.

hey, sorry to keep bothering people with this thread (i'm sure you're all sick of it by now.. i just figured why start a whole new thread and make a mess of the board). I just was wondering if anyone could let me know what they think about my identifications (both chants and others... although people have already kinda reassured me about the chants)? seem acurate? i just wanna be 100% sure before i go ahead and pick/eat the chants (which, if my i.d.'s are correct, i plan on doing tomorrow!) and i also just wanna know so i can tell if im doing alright in general with i.d.ing stuff

I forgot to say, I know I haven't provided the information such as habitat, spore print color (cuz i didnt take any mushrooms for printing), etc. so if you dont/cant answer, i understand... just wondering tho.

All your ID's appear correct to me.

#1 looks a bit different than the Cantharellus cibarius I find around here, whiter gills. The ones that grow around here probably aren't really cibarius, I am waiting for the paper to come out so I can call them the proper name. They are the "california chanterelle" and are much larger and less tasty then eastern species.

Go ahead and eat them, as long as its not a jack o lantern you are good. Make sure the flesh is white.

Those little red ones look tasty, I would love to fry up a few hundred of those.

thanks! ya, i knew not to eat jack-o-lanterns and i can tell those apart from chants easily. you really gave me a boost of confidence with my i.d.'s! and yeah, i wanna try the red and orange ones really bad... fry up a couple dozen with a few eggs...

The only ID I would potentially question is the Russula emetica. There are a brazilian kinds of red capped Russulas out there. My experience with seeing Russulas accurately IDed by somebody who actually knows them well (by professional standards) is that R. emetica is actually a pretty uncommon species. The guy I saw IDing them was (the late) Ray Fatto.

I recommend this site if you really want to work on IDing Russulas. That's the stuff Ray Fatto put together (with Kibby).

Happy mushrooming!
