Oysters, Boletes and more!
    #3123271 - 09/11/04 08:30 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Went for a hike yesterday with Psilygirl out towards the Cascades in hopes again for Chantrelles, but we?re pretty sure it must be too early for them yet?

We did find pounds of oysters, though, take a look!

There were some beautiful clusters growing too high out of reach!

We also found this bolete (Boletus smithii) hidden well under ferns growing on the forest floor:

We also found this patch of beautiful Lepiota's, possibly Lepiota rachodes, but we didn't check for any staining. Any guesses??

Another great hike here in the PNW, it poured all last night so even though we haven?t found any chantrelles yet, I?m sure all this rain is helping them get ready!

Peace - @cro

Very nice acro!! I wish I ran across fully developed beautiful Oysters like that...all mine are babies. Keep up the good work and those are beautiful pictures, I especially enjoy the shot up the trunk of the snag.

yes we were quite lucky to find them in such good condition and in such large numbers!

hopefully the chantrelles will start popping up soon!  we're going hiking over on the peninsula for a few days and will hopefully have something to post when we return!

Can't tell from the photo. Did you collect the specimen and bring it home?

Happy mushrooming!

cool finds,  especially the oysters .  that doesn't really look like L. rachodes to me.  the ones I've seen were a lot thicker, the red/orange bruising right after you cut them is helpful in ID'ing them...

I suppose it could still be c. molybdites here's a good link for info. http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/aug99.html
notices what he says about the spores. Interesting...even c. molybdites (green-spores lepiota) can have white spores when younger!
I was not aware of this.
