I am very happy to report that the flower pot with verm barriers and hpoo have sprouted some GIANT "pins".

None of my indoor stuff ever had anything this big! Here's hoping for them to mature!

is the depth of the flowerpot deeper than you normally use for containers?  Mushroom size is directly related to the depth of the substrate.

Dr. T - 18 hours later and here are the pictures:





The big guy's cap was starting to crack and the veil was broken by 10 this morning so I picked it. 37.5 grams wet...

I'm guessing the rest will be ready tonight and tomorrow morning...

Mycocurious: yes you are right, it must be a thick substrate, maybe the mycelium from the verm barriers colonized the Hpoo? My first casings grew lots of small fruits because the substrate layer was too thin I am guessing. And they are only fruiting from the sides of the pot because it is more humid?

Well I think they are Golden Teachers...

I am positive they are Cubensis, they bruise blue and look like my indoor ones, just super sized.

I am positive it is from the verm barriers I put in the bottom. They must have colonized the Hpoo.

I am super surprised, and can't wait to try this again!

That's why, for bulk substrates, bus-boy tubs or dishpans are the defacto container if you can manage the space requirements. The 5"+ deep area gives you just the right, manageable depth...

Being that this was an accidental outdoor grow, I have no idea what to do about bugs??? The 6th fruit had a bore hole on the stem, so i cracked it open to see what was in there. There was about 6 little worms/maggots! EWWWWWWWWWWW. Is this normal for out door stuff? Doesn't it make the bugs high?

After the big guy weighed in at a whooping 37.5 grams, # 2 came in at 25, # 3 at 14, # 4 at 13 and # 5 at 7... # 6 is still maturing but do I see a trend here?

I did a monotub that pinned on the edges of the container .....

just like your gorgeous outdoor mushrooms did in the flower pot.

Do you know why they grow on the edges ? I've wondered about that.

But to answer your question I think because it is way more humid down the sides???

I am still waiting for someone to answer all of my questions...in the mean time I am looking...

They pinned at the edges because of the humidity. Since you are growing outdoors they prob aren't in a high enough humidity. The verm is prob a little dried out. You might want to try and put a bit of plastic over the top in order to keep it more humid, however by doing that you will be sacrificing air exchange a bit. Do you mist the pot regularly?

As far as the bugs go, I guess that just comes with the territory of outdoor growing. I once did a outdoor guerilla grow if you will which I believe deer were nibbling on em. What you have so far looks pretty tasty though. :thumbup:

Bugs are part of nature, I don't think you can get rid of them completely. You should set the pots on a lid or foil, so they can't enter through the bottom. But flying bugs are going to get on them too.

To answer relativexistance, I haven't sprayed or anything, just one day the mushrooms appeared.  However, it was very rainy for about a week before their appearance.  And by very rainy, I mean a months worth of rain in 2 days, the river rose 5 feet up the shore over night.

Here is a picture of what was left of the last one when I picked it this morning.  Definitely need to look into bug prevention if/when I try this again.

Wow, you've got some shroom-eating bugs, alright. I wonder what it was. You may need to go out at midnight and catch them in the act to find out. Could be slugs, could be beetles, could be lots of things.
