Or there's these, which have been on the general info section for well over a year... http://www.shroomery.org/generalinfo/glossary.asp http://www.shroomery.org/generalinfo/anintroduction.html There's lots of other FAQs there as well. Just mention these ones because some of the FAQ to which you linked read remarkably similarly to parts of these. Pure coincidence, no doubt.

Link, As posted in this other thread http://www.shroomery.org/ubbnoncgi/Forum2/HTM L/009132.htmlthe search functoin needs to be working again and there should be a lot of emphasis put on tihs. I am frusttrated with it myself right now because its not working... and I do a lot of my research.. even being a very experienced grower.. from the search function. It use to work great.. not sure what happened. FAQ's are nice.. but there usually so long ppl dont read them all. I've read many FAQ's on various subjects, when there was no search function. But personally I have found the search function of ANY big website to be the most powerfull tool possible. Just my 2 cents... thanks for your help in fixing this. -peace-

Link- I think that in your FAQ there should be a BIG ASS section on casing It seems like thats what many newbies ask about, I know I do. Mention the positive and negative sides of casing, the easiest methods... Also, tell people that rice cakes often look too dry when actually they're just right.good luck on making a new faq, we really need one. -pin

So is http://gozips.uakron.edu/~alder/ShroomeryFAQ.html to location of the FAQ as it us updated? Here's an entry for you: q. When is the best time to pick the mushrooms? How? a. To get the most potency, its best to pick them when their veil has torn. The veil is the then piece of flesh that connects the stem to the underside of the mushroom. After the veil tears, all sort of spores will start falling out messing up your setup. To pick the mushrooms, grab them towards the best and gentle twist or wiggle. If there are attached mushrooms, and those attached mushrooms are disturbed, they will likely abort so you should pick them at the same time. For casings, it is recommended to clear the whole case of at once when the first few are ready, so a new pin set can develop. Also, this allows for a careful inspection to clean off ALL mushroom material so that it doesn't mold/contaminate. a section should be included on aborts, but my lazy style is to just throw the things away if they look gross or are too much work to clean up.

i think that having a faq and definately a search function are good things. but how about this as a different approach to newbies who, in my experience, always seem to have more questions than faqs and searches can answer:perhaps a third cultivation board for beginners could be made. inside you could also have it sectioned apart with different topics. since newbies tend to ask the exact same questions, it wouldnt be hard to set up sub-forums for each type of question. this would act sort of like a "living faq". since newbies usually need things worded for them in a personalized manner, this would work better than a faq. some ideas for possible sub-forums are: various tek forums (pf, mmgg, etc), casing, cakes, grow chamber, incubation, humidification, substrates, supplies, misc. at the top of each section, there could be a short couple of paragraphs addressing what the section is about, like: "'casing' - this is a forum in which growers can ask ?s concerning casing. casing is the use of a second layer of non-nutritious substrate in order to increase yields." im guessing that if you can use this format to lump all of the newbie questions together, they can start answering themselves and operate just like a faq would - but better. plus: no one even has to write a faq, as this would create a "faq" that would update itself! -daniel.
