"The Pool" Forum

I don't think anyone noticed where i tucked it in the other thread, so I am starting a new one, because the idea kicks ass. 

Ythan/Admins -  We should have a forum called "The Pool" which would work similarly to the polls forum, except that users would be able to create their own betting pools.  Time limits and such would be necessary, but it would allow users of the site to bet on things, using their appreciation points as currency.

You could probably use the same code as the current points lottery to hold the points while the bet is running.  Points divided easily between multiple winners.  I had originally thought of being able to bet on arcade games, but that's not nearly as cool as this, and someone mentioned that we suffer from game cheaters.

Either way, I know that you guys have a shit ton of stuff to do, and that you get a gazillion forum request threads, but this would be tight.  You'd probably only need 1 moderator to run the whole thing. (like polls)


So anyway, that's my idea, and I'll give 500 points to whichever admin makes it happen.  :lol:

Considering you are already able to transfer points to other users there is nothing to stop you betting already, You can post your bets in the sports forum, if people are interested they'll support your idea.

This doesn't need it's own forum.

but the advantage would be to allow multiple people to bet one one thing, as opposed to a bet only between two people. Shit, you could use it for contests and all kinds of stuff.

To give a couple examples of what I am saying....

people in cult could start a "Guess the dry weight" pool....

people in hunt could start a "ID the mushroom" pool....

people in otd could start a "who gets the next ban" pool....

sports forum is easy, they could bet on anything sports related.

Amazing! Like any users who vote the right way on a poll(bet) Get, divided among them, all points. So basically if 10 people voted one way and 11 people voted the other. all of the 11 correct betters would split the 21*(how ever much the bet is). Man thats amazing! This really needs to happen..

So what if you want multiple people to do it? Multiple people can't transfer points?? Say I go into the sports forum and I make a post that goes something like this:

I give the Red Sox 5 games to beat the Cubs in the World Series. I'll put 500 points down on it. Whoever else is interested just post here.

Then there are 6 replies:
3 go something like "I'll put 500 they don't"
And the other three say something like "I'll put 500 they do"

Then say the Red Sox DO win in 5 games. Me and the other three people who said they would split up the 1500 points as evenly as possible. This could be done multiple ways, the three losers could all transfer their points to say me, then I would transfer the three other winners 375 points each, or any other way as long as the winners all got their points.

B) The admins could use the same code that they use for the lottery to "hold" the points once people enter the pool, until the pool ends.

Maybe if it was easy to set up a way to do it in posts kind of like polls. That way there doesn't have to be a whole new forum for it, you could just place it in a post in the appropriate forum (a sports related pool in the sports forum, a growing related pool in the cult forum.)
