Mushroom Cultivation Forum

I take time to answer posts in this forum , as well as I can.
Im not very experienced, but I try to help the less experienced. I really reckon this is important , as I too asked a lot of questions.
Anyhow, I think the frequently asked questions are getting out of hand. You get a "what's the best strain?" every 3 days.Other people ask about for example rye-casings, which clearly shows , they haven't read the faq or anything else about cultivation.
Cant people who post in this forum get a screen which reminds them about first checking the faq, THEN searching on their issue, and if not having found enough info THEN post in the forum.
Maybe someelse has a better idea of dealing with it, so feel free to post!

There was something like this previously, a splash scren would come up before your post count got to 10, unfortunatly people would just goto some random forum make their own thread and reply to it 10 times. 

What really would be needed is a per-forum splash, that is dependent on the # of post the user has in the that particular forum.  The splashes would basicly goto the forum rules, since most eveything you should read through before posting is in there, including links to faqs and such (and if the rules and guidlines sections are not i have to ask why not?)

What would really be nice is that when posts in forums like cult, preform a search to see if there are any related topics, if so, list em...  then make posts in cult have to be previewed before posting if you have less then 20 or so posts in that forum.

I believe this is still the case. I just think people don't take the time to read it :lipsrsealed:

As for the rest of your ideas, they seem nice.. and complicated :tongue:

eh, it sounds complicated, but what the user would end up seeing would be very simple, before posting the rules with links to relevent faqs (ie: in cult a list of the cult faqs would be listed, in adv cult, a list of advanced faqs, etc..) and a list of related posts.

The fourms over at devshed.com have them on every page so it shouldnt be all that hard of a task, i would bet the code is freely available to use as well, so modifying it to work with ubb shouldnt be all that big a deal. I belive they search the bodys for the subjects...

Well I double-checked and like I said, the system we have is comprehensive enough not to warrant the expenditure of efforts to recode a more dynamic system. I know that I don't have anywhere near the necessary knowledge to undertake such a task, and that 3D has his handsful with other obstacles currently. The splash we have already outlines many of the relevant FAQ links, as well as providing an on screen search form to familiarize users. I just think people are lazy and that's how it is...

Maybe if for the first X ammount of posts, a light search of keywords found in the users post was done, and relative links or threads were shown to them. this might get the message across, that a simple search of keywords will yeild good stuff.

That would be way difficult, if it were to work sensibly. I mean,take for instance the question "Which is the best cubensis strain?"
Cubensis and Strain will get you 40% of the threads as a result.
Or "...Ive tried straight verm, but would like to try 50-50-Tek"
The engine would look for "Verm", and would find a 50/50 Tek discussion, along with a majority of other threads. He wouldnt find "50/50 Tek" , cause the Newbie misspelled it.
Id just go for a pop-up.

I would imagine it would work on VERY key words/phrases. Most of the multi posts come from very similar phrases like this.

Not that its all that bad to go over an old topic again because sometimes when you rehash somthing enough, new things will arrise. But alot of the really simple stuff could be flagged and suggested posts or faq articles could be provided.

I reckon the only thing possible is to FORCE people to read the faq. Everytime someone asks a "dumb" question he gets spammed in his mail account with the message "READ THE FUCKING FAQ".
That would definately help. :smile:

I just replied to a thread in the advanced forum when I got a pop-up of the forum rules.
Nice to see something changed. I hope this also applies for the mushroom cultivation forum.
How does it work? Does it check how long im on the board or how many post ive made?
