Local Ron Paul Activism
    #7152201 -

I left my house on my way back to work after lunch, and the van in front of me had this huge sign that said "Our next president - Ron Paul - Go Ahead, Google Him". :what:  At the next intersection he pulls up in the lane next to mine, and I have him roll down hiswindow and I ask him where he got the sign. He tells me about this guy and tells me to search on Google for Ron Paul meet up, and how they are having a meeting this Saturday. :headbang:

So I've found this website and I'm definitely going to see what is up. I was really surprised to see the sign and to find that there is a small organization in this area (Sioux Falls) dedicated to getting the word out.

I know there are quite a few Ron Paul enthusiasts on here, so I thought to mention this because it seems likely that there are a lot of these local organizations. I'd definitely look to http://republican.meetup.com first and see what's on there.

Also, I'm interested in hearing any ideas that anyone might have to promote Ron Paul and get awareness out, on a local, "real life" level. He's certainly got the Internet going for him, and there's no use counting on the media/corporate establishment for assistance, so we really need to get this out on the streets.....

Meetup is a good site, I belong to a couple of local pot reform groups that keep in touch using it.

I saw this thread and created a Ron Paul Info thread, which he deserves.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7153611/an/0/page/0

You can ask question and find info there or ask them here.

Here are some good videos on Ron Paul (posted from other R.P. thread):

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IWfIhFhelm8
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hkWSo5CRu2k

And here are some very good articles that Ron Paul has written and worth reading:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul-arch.html

I've been following Ron Paul for a few months, and I'm AM going to vote for him.  He is a true advocate of the Constitution, and doesn't believe that our gov't should be telling us what we can and cannot do (like getting rid of the war on drugs,).

So if you have questions or anything I can try to answer them or post some more videos of him if you want.

And here is his official site:

Went on his web site. Well, I guess in the big picture, you could call him a lesser of th evils. If it were between him and one of the front runners, I guess I would consider it.

He keeps very quiet on environment, and the last thing we need is another Republican who wants to develop everything. I'm sick of those assholes.

I also hate these Right wing pro-life fanatic dip shits who think they can tell a mother what she can do with her body. They will never stop abortion. They may punish a few people for doing it, but it will always be up to the mother. That's almost as bad as the War on Drugs. We can do better than this guy. He has no chance anyway. We will either be stuck with a mainstream Republican or Democrat.

i actually agree with no abortion, it has nothing to do with the womens body, its about whats inside it....which is not hers. Its another being.

Plus it takes one more mind control device away from women. These double standards, and abuse women cause towards men needs to stop.

but like i always say, our votes don't mean shit when its all rigged and bias towards 1-2 canadates.

Who put's facelift clinton and alba's on tv everyday?

not the people thats for sure....

these "partys" ensure only certain people have a chance to win. Its their job.

Go Ron Paul!

Paul does not feel he has the right to force a woman to keep her child- though it is true, it sees it as a life that the constitution is suppose to protect and has called abortion violent. Remember he is an OBGYN.

He thinks the people of the states should make decisions about those laws with their own governments. He does not beleive this is an issue where the Federal Government should have any jurisdiction over law making on it for the whole of the nation.

I am also concerned about environmental issues too. Besides my current decision to cross party lines just to vote for Paul, I had been a Green party voter and will go back to voting Green if Paul doesn't get the nomination.

Anyway, I am going to ask at another forum, about where Paul stands on environmental issues. I had his position mis-understood a lot based on "bit blurbs".

Like, I didn't know that he did vote to go into Afganastan after Bin laden, and still wants to catch Bin laden. Paul was pissed when we didn't follow him into pakistan and get him when he was there at a U.S. Hospital and more pissed, when he saw us stay in Afganistan instead to do more nation building instead of keep pursuing Bin Laden.

He wants to go after terrorists who have committed acts of violence.

He has no beef with nations and their citisens and thinks, attacking whole nations because, some terrorist might be there is just wrong and I agree.

Anyway, I am curious to know his personal words on environmental issues myself.

I'll report back.

here is what I found so far on, Ron Paul's OWN words and opinions on the environmental subject. These are clips where the audience asked questions on the subject during political TV shows.

For those who do not click on links, I will sum it up as I understood his position.

he did say with his own words, "Anyone who thinks they have a right to pollute the environment is WRONG."

That clears up any question that he is, morally, philosophically or politically okay with it. He is not.

He is pro nuclear energy because it is clean and efficient. He followed that throwing in a bite for electric cars.

He realizes that it takes about 80% of the energy made from bio fuels to make the fuels and see it as being an inefficient alternative compared to what else is out there.

His BIGGEST beef, is that he see our subsidies of carbon emitting fuels being the largest and WORST road block to the free market bringing us alternatives.

He wants to cut the government subsidies (protection) of all carbon emitting energy sources including OIL. He believes, the private sector then, will naturally, and now more freely be able to make a swift and quick move to providing us with alternative energy sources.

He doesn't want the government subsidizing any of those either for the same reasons.

He has a beef with our property rights being a joke. He believes that if you give the people more rights to property, they will have more reason to take responsibility of care and the power to rise up against anyone who wants to harm it. He thinks the laws related to government and corporate pollution should be made and enforced at the state level. He REALLY seems to be a little miffed at people, not taking responsibility for what is happening in their own environments, towns, states and cities.

( I sense he has a disdain for American apathy and dependence on the government to fix everything for them)

He took off on the government saying they are worse then the corporations with polluting policies.

He said, as President of the U.S., that makes him President of the U.S. not the world. He doesn't think he has a right to tell China what to do, yet, he thinks we should work in a neighborly way with Mexico and Canada, about taking care of the quality of the air, and water we share.

That was my take.

I like where he is coming from with cutting subsidies for carbon emitting fuels, to free the market up better for alternatives to come into play through the private sector and to know, he thinks that anyone who thinks they have a right to pollute another's property is just wrong.

Some of his thinking here may be ahead of its time, because I agree that Americans in general have grown apathetic. Generation y is pretty awake and active on these issues though.

Nuclear is a BIG mistake. There will be an accident and many plants and animals (including those human fruit flys) will die. Humans think they can contain the nuclear monster. It will get out. It always does. Paul is a fool for supporting this.

As far as the abortion matter. You don't have to like it, but when you take the mother's right away, you are living in a dictatorship. There are just some things yo have to stay out of...

I myself am not Pro nuclear because like you said, a Chernobyl can happen.

There are many other ways to go. My preference is for wind, solar. (Some guy near me in Tampa, has a working car engine that runs on Water. I need to get back to what is going on with that. It was on the news a few weeks ago.)

Ron Paul will not be deciding the direction of alternative energy sources and says it is not Constitutionally in the place of the Federal Government to do that.

Remember, he does not want the government subsidizing ANY energy source. He wants the private sector, through the free market and competition and public demand to figure out the best sources to provide and consume.

If the government doesn't subsidize one, some private company would have to pay to build it. If the people in the area do not want it, they will tell their local Government NO.

Thats why I said, I think such a set up may be a little progressive because, there are not enough people who want to get active and  involved with shaping their environment through working with their local government.

The current nanny government has spawned a "think for me, take care of me, I am helpless, lazy and stupid" society.

What Paul is trying to wake us up to realize is that WE, with subsidizing out of the way (government protection of what is bad for us and the environment big business) have the power of control over what type of energy we consume because we are the ones buying it. If we don't and won't buy, who in their right mind will bother creating supply? What we want to buy and competition for earning our dollars will dictate the future market.

His stance on abortion is simple. He says it's unconstitutional for the Federal government to pass laws either way on it. IF, laws are to be passed for or against it, by will of the people of the state, it is in the Constitutional place of the individual states to pass such laws. That is all.

Sure, people want to know his personal opinion on it and he gives it.

How many states do you think would vote to ban abortion for their state?

If any did, no one has to live in them if they don't like that law, or they could just cross the state border.

If enough people wanted a law against it that they vote it in, then, maybe they should have such a state law. Our Government is suppose to be, of the people for the people by the people.

I wish this topic would just drop from politics as it's retarded to me. We can go round and round about when life begins. Being a woman, and having experienced pregnancy, I think I would be quicker to take a baseball bat to the head of anyone who tried to tell me they had rights to what was a part of my physical body.

Bottom line is, if a woman/girl wants to terminate a pregnancy, she will one way or the other, just like prohibition didn't work.

I would also like to take a baseball bat to any insensitive cretin who says a woman has to carry the child of someone who raped her.

Thinking and feeling that way, I am still voting for Ron Paul in the primaries. I don't see this as a significant issue compared to others on the table I want to see get remedied by the good Dr. Paul.

If anyone does not want to vote for him just because he thinks Roe vs Wade should be undone, because it's unconstitutional, and that it's up to the individual states, then, don't vote for him because of that.

From what I see on the environmental front, I love knowing he wants to drop government subsidizing of energy sources. We all know that plenty of alternatives are out there and ready for mass development and use. Subsidizing and consumer ignorance has been standing in the way and nothing else.

You want a taste of what government subsidizing has done to thwart progress towards alternatives? Rent and watch the movie-

Who Killed the Electric Car.

there's alot of debates in this thread, but thx for singling me out

back on topic

what you all forget is that the big GOV is run at "least" in small part by businesses.

stopping the government from "protecting us" will only lead to these big businesses showing their face....assuming that they don't create a new face to hide their agenda behind.

the true is "slow" progress is more profitable to businesses, why would they switch to new technology when the old one is still making money.

and most in business realize that switching tech is a horrendous feat.

the truth is the gov. needs to stop "protecting us" and they need to start putting their foot down and make the decisions that big businesses don't want to make.

oh yeah go Ron Paul!
