Almost all employment is "at-will". Just as you can quit anytime you like, your boss can fire you anytime he likes. However, he cannot violate your civil rights. Your state likely has anti-discrimination laws, but the federal constitution provides your minimum rights. You cannot be fired on the basis of your gender, race, ethnicity or religion.

wrong, you CAN be fired or not hired on gender/ethnicity/race religion. It just has to be proven that those attributes are essential to performing the job. IE hooters.

I'm in canada.

I admit my knowlege is limited on non-union jobs.

All my jobs have been union where there is usually a 30 working day probationary period. After those 30 days, they can't fire you very easily.

For example, you can completely blow a day of work without even calling...and get in severe shit(usually they have a process of: first offence: written warning, second offence: 1 day suspension, third offence: 3 day suspension, 4th offence: termination), but not lose your job. For doing something like that, they'd skip the written warning and give you a 1 day for example.

So yea,it is quite different now that I think about it. Unions are where it's at

good point coda. Although I don't think you can be fired on the basis of your sex, race, etc. At any rate, the hooters example illustrates the exception to the rule that can only be applied in very limited circumstances.

Here's something that I may be able to work with.

My boss is Indian. From India. He had 3 managers. Me and 2 other Indians. The girl who called him was the other Indian manager. I know that he's always sided with the other Indian people who work there as far as....when things go wrong, it's NEVER the Indians, someone else is always to blame.

Once, some money went missing on one of my shifts. They immediately blamed me. They had no evidence against me, so of course, he couldn't fire me for that. He just kept saying, "If the person comes forward, then I won't press charges"

He would look at me.

I would NEVER steal from my job. That just wouldn't happen. There are a few more Indian girls who work there and they kept having meetings with him about me. (I know because another non-Indian coworker overheard the conversation.

They were saying it HAD to be me because I was there.

Turns out that another girl who had been working that evening, TURNED IN THE MONEY and he fired HER on the spot.

I got no apology or anything. Anything goes wrong...the finger was always pointed in my direction until I was able to prove my innocence. I fought for my place there even though I hated it. I just needed the damn money.

Even customers would ask me why I still worked there, they knew how horrible those people treated me.

I'm wondering if I should take legal actions towards this man.

i was gonna say the same, Michigan is at "at will" state, meaning the employer can fire you for basically nothing and its legal and unfortunately there's not a damn thing you can do about it
