Can I spawn inside my monotub?

I'm spawning WBS to Coir, I was wondering if I can just spawn wbs to coir inside of the same monotub i'm going to fruit, (without adding Light) or will the Polyfill holes and FAE cause it to pin prematurely?

Also anyone got a good idea of how many quarts to each brick of coir, i know its a 1 to 4 ratio But i'm having trouble converting, and my jars are only half full so when people refer to 3 quart jars of spawn are they speaking of 3 1/2 full or 3/4 full or are they talking 3 actual quarts?

Leave grain jars enough room to shake to speed up the process

Yes, spawn inside yer monotub. I've never heard of anyone doing it any other way. Just don't expose it to light before you case. then when your casing layer is looking pretty colonized, let there be light. Also i like to raise the air circulation in the room when i am ready to trigger pinning(AKA let a fan run in the room pointed indirectly at your monotub.)

1 brick of coir expanded is about 8 or 9 quarts.

If it's your first time doing a bulk grow i would recommend using a smaller ratio then 1:4. I really like 1:2 or 1:3. so for a brick of expanded coir use 3 or 4 quarts of spawn.

The reason i prefer using a higher spawn ratio is the lightning fast colonization which highly reduces your chances of getting any contam before 100% colonization. Also using a higher spawn ration with coir will help you get more flushes. Coir, like straw, has a tendency to bust it's load on the first flush; Higher spawn rates helps counteract this.

make sure you cut off FAE to the tub. you can either cover the colonizing substrate with something like foil or cover the polyfil holes.

if you cover the substrate, be sure to poke holes in whatever you use to cover it to allow for gas exchange.

They do colinize quick and this also gives me the depth that I want,I cover with foil and poke a million holes with a fork,than leave it on a shelf and it isnt more tha a few days before im pasturizing my casing :rockon:

i do a lot of spawn with coir, so it finishes fast as shit, 1:1 ratio, im not a BIG fan of coir substrates, but it really works well for a quick fix for being out of manure... much cheaper also.
