The Official 2007 Carolina 'Shroom Huntin' Topic

If your from North or South Kak'alacky post up what you've found...pictures or just species names would both be great.

If you live within 50-100miles of the Carolinas go ahead and post.

Any mushrooms coming from the Appalachians or other mountain ranges would be very interesting....Does anybody hunt up in the hills?

The piedmont area would also be interesting to discuss....


I have found Panaeolus Subb. and Panaeolina Foe. in Carolina.

I know everyone will tell me they're not...:rolleyes: but fresh Foes in my area seem active, not potent, but active.

And yes i can tell the difference between Subbs and Foes. But please don't discuss this there is sooo many threads on this. Please don't talk about it.

P.S.- Anybody ever found Amanita Muscaria in the Carolinas?

This thread is intended to discuss the "Other" 'shrooms in the Carolina....EVERYBODY knows there are cubes in South Carolina and near the coast.... Discuss the "other" areas and "other" 'shrooms.

I'm not sure why yet, but a lot of newly registered members have been creating "Official" topics for their area of the world. Sometimes only days after they register here they start an official topic of their own.

Usually, once a year we might have a "Official Gulf Coast Shroom Find Topic", and that would kinda include the Carolina's even tho they do not border the Gulf Coast.

Now we have members starting "The Official Southwest Central-Inland Florida Topic" or "The Southeastern North-Central Texas Topic". Why i don't know. I'm still thinking about reasons why and haven't came up with one yet. But there is a definate influx happening.

New members are guilty of this, and then our regular members are kind of mocking it by making their own Official Hunting Topics. Which is humorous if you've hung around the hunting forum long enough.

Anyways, we get a lot of Carolina shroomers here. And eventually they might reply to your topic. It might not be time yet. Which is again a reason why newbies should not start these topics because they themselves are not completely certain when the season in their area begins.

The rain this year has been shit tastic. Nothing else can really be said, I have been to a couple fields and everything was way to dry. I'm sure they are here now but there isn't really enough moister right now to even be excited about hunting. I'm waiting for the first tropical storm/ hurricane to bring some rain be for I go out again.

I'm sorry...But I didn't make the topic official... I think somebody said it to me as a joke and i took them seriously.

I don't see why every unique geographical area shouldn't have a thread...Certainly would help the hunters. My area is much larger
than what alot of the newbies are putting
Western North Carolina...??? I agree, that's stupid.

I'm focusing on the piedmont, foothills and mountains of Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and the Carolinas.
I should have explain my concept better, sorry.

That's a pretty broad area, I think it's geographically very different from the Gulf Coast and has very different types of 'shrooms, EVERYBODY knows that there are Cubes in pastures near the coast. My geographical area seems under discussed.

I know when the season starts in my area...as i said I'm finding Subbs and Foes.

I am sorry, I'm new here and are humbly asking for the knowledge of those at the shroomery,

You know it jus so happens I believe here in SC its going to be a late cube season.. I have been to three known fields and found nothing....

Altho here it is July 3rd and there's ton of fungi to be found (oysters,chantrelles,lepiotas at the burger king drive thru..etc..
..
I jus can't seem to locate any actives :frown:

I did however take poo from two active fields and made an outdoor chamber (a big ass cooler  with perlite and pattys placed ontop)
the mycelium looks very healthy as it rips thru this cow pie colonizing it
So hopefully by this time this poo flushes the fields here will be ready

I remember last year august 27th the day I got arrested I went hunting earlier in the day and found the most cubes I've ever found before in my life
There were so many I didn't have but four paper bags those were fileld to the top and I left hundreds behind.... long story short I had to end up dumping those bags in the woods for the police were near my vehicle..so I didn't even get to make it home with that massive amount of cubensis

Damn so police know about mushroom hunters and actually prosecute us?
It's illegal to have fresh, undried, unpackaged actives in SC? In NC?
Did you have the owners permission to be on the property??

lol ... altho I was trespassing to hunt these shrooms..
The police were not looking for me in general ...they were trying to find a missing person in the area and wanted to know what I was doing in the woods being that I lived across town..
I couldn't give them a good enough reason I guess and being that I was stupid and lied to them they arrested that night...
on charges of trespassing and lying to an officer during in ongoing investigation that at the time I had no idea was going on...


So after a day in jail I told them i was picking magic mushrooms from near by cow field and the next afternoon still in jail mind u I got to see a judge and gave me a fine of 1,000 $ I made bail for 150 $
The police were kinda cool about me after I told them I was hunting magic mushrooms that I have alot of knowledge about them and have been picking and eating them for a few years now..

long story short I was at the wrong place at the wrong time .. If I had knew a person was missing in the area I would have never gone out to that field..

oh yeh get this ...

the missing person turned up in a bunker underground
A man kidnapped this person and kept them in his little bunker he dug himself the police didn't even find this person
the person waited till this bastard fell asleep and they found his cell phone and text messaged their mother mom about their location and the parents of this person came to get thier child..they actually found her and contacted the police and gave them this mans whereabouts..the police were clueless of this shit... mind u they were wasting their time with me when they could have had dogs and people out and about looking for this person ..hell I would have even helped seeing how I know those woods really well
... had no idea there were bunkers and sum crazy man who lived in them was in that area..thats kinda scary

this person was 14 years of age and was smart enough to get thyself out of that fucked horrible up situation...
All in all I'm glad this person is safe and that man is in jail
the only thing that sucks is that a very big active cow field is right smack in the middle of this area where all this shit went down .. So to be honest I'm scarred to hunt this field like I use to...

So I will be looking for a new spot in a new county ...
To much drama and bullshit over a hunt for mushrooms that I did not need to be involved in ..
