It all depends on what kind of mushroom you are looking for, georgia has about 3 or 4 common to semicommon species of active mushrooms. If you are looking for cubies, search cow pastures. If you are looking for any species of Panaeolus, check horse and cow pasutres, lawns, and grass compost piles. If you're looking for Weilii's... well I don't know, I have yet to see them in person in their natural habitat.
Peace out,

I missed what that last guy wrote! Some people seem to have no common sense these days
I asked around here last year about GA fields, but got no specific field locations, so good luck! This past September, I ended up going down to Valdosta, GA (take 75 South. 1 hr from FL), to a small town on the backraods named OMEGA. I found a few very potent cubes there, not really worth the 3 hr drive, but they were the first shrooms I found and my friends who came with provided plenty of entertainment!
Is it true that Welli's are really THAT potent?! If Anyone would like to get together and hunt for some, I'd totally be up for it!!!
Peace,
Somewhereblue.

...Hello NewShroomster,
We talk about mushroom hunting here.
No sales of mushrooms.
No sales of mushrooms.
Keep shroomin,
I dont delete peoples posts unless, people ask things that could jeopardize the future of the shroomery.

LOL! my god... 2 deleted posts in a row.. this guy is on a roll.
As far as giving away feild locations. I sure know I wouldn't do it, espicaly on the net. Massive amounts of people would go to your field and rape the patch, leaving nothing left. Cops may also get word and keep an eye on the field. Bad idea over all.
Peace out,

Glad I've helped a bit moonshine I would bet money that weilii also grows in alabama, the caerulescens that were found in ala back in the 30's were probably weilii in my opinion. I would try the mid to upper portion of the state, weilii doesn't grow south of ATL that we know of as of yet, so I would guess the same would be true for ALA. The farthest south weilii has been reported was Macon, and this was never confirmed. Good luck in your hunts!!

What about Weilii hunting in SC, like near the augusta region? There are a lot of newly developed neighborhoods in my area!

OMFG after searching through some of LK's Weilii pics, and figuring out what loblolly pines were (I never knew thats what they were called), I think I may have picked Weilii before and didn't know it.
Last summer, in an area in my yard that was landscaped about a year ago (the whole yard was cleared from woods about 4 yrs ago), I found a hell of a lot of mushrooms that when wet had a chestnut brown color cap with gills visible from top that were extremely identical to a pic of yours, nipple and everything. The stems were white to off-white and hollow. They were growing out of loblolly pine needles, and a few more a few feet away were found growing in loblolly bark/needle mulch under some holly bushes. How long do Weilii's uaually take to stain blue? I tried a couple and waited for about 3-5 minutes but no bruising occured. The gills did have that psilocybe structure, but they were white in the young ones (I didn't get the chance to examine any old ones, plus I'm going on memory), which threw me off but I understand that Weilii can have gills that are very white.
The fact that they were growing out of pine needles, had whiteish gills, and didn't immediately bruise caused me to not investigate further, as in checking for pellicule, spore color, drying color etc. Now I wish I had.

Lizard King,
The mushrooms found in the 1920s in Alabama are Psilocybe caerulescens and are the type species for which the name was given to. This was almost thirty years before the same species of mushrooms were collected by the Wasson's in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1953-1955. That was when Roger Heim identified the Mexican varieties as being the same mushroom identified from Huntsville, Alabama in the 1920s.
Have a shroomy day.
Congradulations on your new discovery.
mj
part of the reson no one has recollected them in Alabama since then is that no one has looked for them or considerd them worth collecting. That woud be the local straight mycologists from schools who have no interest in hallucnigongenic fungi but are interested in the edible ones.
I am sure there are many patches of P. caerulescens in Alabama. At least the weilii are closely related to caerulescens.
