what temp to knock up LC?

well, i think i might have fucked up my first LC attempt.. i knocked up 2 1/2 pint jars, but i didnt wait for them to cool down before i knocked them up.

any chance of them surviving.. i pretty much just waited 1 hour after i finished PCing them.

so they were still pretty warm. but not like burning hot.

its not really a question, i know your supposed to let them cool to room temp before knocking up.

its more a question of, how fucked am i, do they have a chance of working.

got a guestimated temp at time of innoc? less than 110f proly just fine, i'd worry after...i like 80-84, but idk.

Just let them set for a few days, if by day five or so you aren't seeing any growth, then you probably fried them.
How are your cakes doing? The cakes that I started, on the same day as you started yours, are starting to pin.  :mjdance:

well they are just chilling right now, looks like sperm floating around at the bottom. hopefully that is normal.

I'm assuming you used honey, so that "sperm" like substance is somewhat normal.

My first couple of liquid cultures were like that, but then I started using smaller portions of honey and they are now fairly clear. I just sort of eyeball it. When the water starts to turn from clear to the gold-ish color, I know I have enough honey.

Why not? I can't think of a negative reason not to use liquid culture.

Faster growth, lowering chance of contamination, extending your spore prints and syringes into practically infinite amounts...It takes a couple of tries, but well worth the patience.

sadly, i agree with you.. but i was trying to think of a way to stretch this final syringe into much more spores to inoculate with.

if it doesnt work, oh well.. but id still like to give it another try.. i really enjoy this hobby so trying different techniques really allows me to observe different properties of the fungus.
